Woodworking Crafts – August 2018
English | 92 pages | True PDF | 33.6 MB

Woodworking Crafts is intended for anyone and everyone from beginners to experienced woodworkers who want to expand their range woodworking knowledge and learn new skills. It covers everything from green woodworking to cabinetmaking to DIY, upcycling, restoration and many craft disciplines based on wood such as marquetry, pyrography, woodturning and carving. The emphasis is on applied techniques and working with different tools and materials. Readers are encouraged to interact and play their part too, with reader based product tests, letters, hints and tips published in each issue.

*** In our August issue our main project is a modern style hall table by James Hatter, also on a contemporary theme a charming laminated ash plant stand project. On the turning front we look at how to sharpen lathe tools and try out Record Power’s new Herald lathe. Learn about the importance of waxes, avoid those nasty twists using winding sticks and make an end grain shooting board. It’s summer so there’s a design for a slatted sun lounger to relax on while reading the magazine. Our feature is an unusual college in America at Berea, Kentucky where students don’t pay any fees to learn woodworking and other crafts. Green woodworker Paul Adamson shows us how to make birch bark containers and Garry Marshall delves into ancient hedgerows. A workshop chest of drawers with special meaning gets a major revamp and push-along racing cars for a pinewood derby are an easy and fun to make project. We could go on and on, but there is plenty more to read and enjoy! ***
